How to choose the perfect duvet cover

Considering that duvets are made in a range of standard sizes it would be reasonable to assume that the same was true of duvet covers to fit them.  However sometimes there are discrepancies between the sizes on offer between stores, so it is a good idea to know the measurements of your duvet before you start shopping.

Try and choose a fabric that will not only look good on the bed but will wear well over time.  Make sure that the bedding that you select is machine washable, snag resistant and durable.  Some of these characteristics may be lacking in some of the cheaper options available in the marketplace, so bear in mind that you may need to shop for further replacements sooner than you think.  A luxury duvet cover will of course cost more but not only will it look stylish and feel wonderful, it may also require extra care to keep it looking good over time.

It's not just colour, pattern and fabric that need consideration; think about how easy the duvet covers will be to fit.  Gone are the days of having to wrestle with the original continental quilt and the envelope style quilt covers, now there are ranges of fastening options that make them easier to use.  Many duvet covers have handy openings at the top corners to ensure a corner to corner fit; others may have tie fastenings, buttons or poppers for ease of use, which is something to keep in mind if you are shopping for a child's duvet cover.
